ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the current process of East-West European integration at a number of levels: emerging patterns of trade specialization, FDI flows, potential implications of migration flows and the impact of all these factors upon labour markets in both Eastern and Western Europe. The perspective taken is that of a potential catching-up process of some of the Central and Eastern European economies and its implications for the emerging patterns of industrial specialization and labour market dynamics. The Appendix reports on studies of inter-industry and detailed intra-industry specialization patterns, productivity and unit labour cost developments in CEECs.
