Jan Mládek
studied at Charles University in Prague and at the University
of Namur, Belgium, and holds a PhD in Economics. Before being
appointed Minister of Agriculture in November 2005, he was economic
advisor to the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament as a
member of the Czech Social Democratic Party. From 1999 to 2001
he was First Deputy Minister of Finance and in 1998/99 Deputy
to the Vice-Prime Minister for Economic Policy. In 2001/02 and
from 1994 to 1998 he was Director of the Czech Institute of
Applied Economics.
