This volume
investigates the recent experience with economic transition,
industrial restructuring and integration in both the New EU
Member States of Central and Eastern Europe (NMS) and selected
Newly Independent States (NIS: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan
and Moldova) and draws conclusions for future economic policy.
Ruslan Grinberg is Director of the Institute of Economy
of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Peter Havlik is Deputy Director and senior economist
at the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw).
He also served as a consultant to OECD and the World Bank.
Oleh Havrylyshyn is currently Visiting Research Scholar
at the University of Toronto. He was Professor of Economics
at Queens University and George Washington University until
1991; Deputy Minister of Finance, Ukraine, 1991-1992; Alternate
Executive Director, Board of IMF (for Ukraine), 1993-1996; and
Senior Official, IMF, until 2006, retiring at rank of Deputy
