Arvind
Panagariya is Professor of Economics and Co-director, Center
for International Economics, University of Maryland. He has
served as the Chief Economicst of the Asian Development Bank
and advised the World Bank, IMF, WTO and UNCTAD in various capacities.
He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University.
Professor Panagariya is a renowned expert on international trade,
especially regionalism and trade policy. His books include The
Economics of Preferential Trade Agreements, 1996, AEI Press
(with J. Bhagwati), The Global Trading System and Developing
Asia, 1997, Oxford University Presss (with M.G. Quibria
and N. Rao), Lectures on International Trade, 1998, MIT
Press (with J. Bhagwati and T.N. Srinivasan) and Trading
Blocs: Alternative Approaches to Analyzing Preferential Trade
Agreements, 1999, MIT Press (with J. Bhagwati and P. Krishna).
Reginoalism in Trade Policy: Essays on Preferential Trading,
1999, World Scientific Press, contains a collection of his essays
on regionalism.
Professor Panagariya has written extensively on trade reforms
in developing countries. He is an Associate Editor of Economics
and Politics and was the founding editor of the Journal
of Policy Reform, which he edited with Dani Rodrik from
1996 to 2001. His papers have appeared in the American Economic
Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review
of Economic Studies, Journal of International Economics,
Journal of Economic Literature, International Economic
Review, World Economy, Journal of International
Affairs and Finance and Development. |
