Sir Tony Atkinson is Professor of Economics and Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford. He has published extensively on the economics of inequality, poverty and welfare systems.

Abstract:
The world distribution of income is governed by the distribution between countries and inequality within countries. Historically, the international distribution widened but inequality within countries fell. Has this been reversed in recent decades? What, in the light of the current economic crisis, are the prospects for income inequalities?
